Welcome to Harrod's Department Store!
We awoke this morning in our little cubicle in London. We stored our luggage at the hotel, grabbed a bit to eat, and took the bus to Harrod's department store. Man.......what a place! If you want a $72 filet mignon, or a hot dog in one of their restaurants ($20) this is the place! To quote the British, it's quite posh.

We wandered through checking out the amazing things they had "on offer". A favorite of ours were the food counters (like an American grocery store) and the pet section...home of the 2200 pound sterling ($3500) chihuahua! We had fun looking at everything....then went out side and passed Ferrarris and Bentleys and Porsches all lining the curb.

We boarded a humble London bus back to the Easyhotel and picked up our packs. We took the underground to Baker Street and caught the Easybus to Stanstead airport north of London. We had not flown Easyjet before but they were wicked cheap.

Turns out it was money well spent! I was treated pretty much the same as in the US on much more expensive airlines. We also had lunch in the airport...one thing we've found is that in the airports in the UK, they don't try to take advantage of a captive audience. The prices on food and other items were pretty much the same as anywhere else in London.

Security here was MUCH easier than in the US. Same rules pretty much, they were just much less invasive and much nicer. The plane left on time, and 50 minutes later touched down in Edinburgh. We met a new friend on the plane, Michael Gordon, who was traveling on business and returning home to Edinburgh. He clued us in on an Italian restaurant near where we were staying and gave us tips about Edinburgh, which we appreciated greatly!

We checked into the hotel then off to the restaurant. As for the restaurant, it's name was La Favorita, on Leithwalk in Edinburgh. I'm questioning the wisdom of an Italian restaurant in Scotland, but Michael Gordon steered us well on this one! It was simply fantastic! What a wonderful meal we had. Nothing but praise for the restaurant.
After that, we went up the street to a pub, laurie had a dram of whisky and I had a pint...then off to our hotel. And what a change it was from Easyhotel in London! Granted, we held no illusions to what Easyhotel was and they delivered everything they promised, for bargain prices in central London. No complaints. But our new digs are a bit more...highbrow. It's off to bed now....then up in the morning to see the city!
