On the sixth day of Christmas

Laurie: You CANNOT use that photo. We look awful!!!!!!!! NO. I'm not joking.
Me: I have to! It's perfect! This is what it looks like looking into a 40 mph wind! We look like cartoon characters!
Laurie: ~Grumbles and frowns~
Me: (Thinking to myself) I'm gonna hear about this later.....

Not much to report today, nor are there many pics. We have heavy weather coming in and fishing was shut down. I drove the beach today but it was deserted. Winds have picked up to around 40 and are intense and sustained. Oddly enough it's like 68 degrees. There are so many watches and warnings I can't count them all....and we've already wound up "on the lower floor of your home in an interior room" due to a tornado warning. One was apparently spotted by the ferry landings and was headed NNE at 65. It (whatever it was) wound up veering off into the sound.
Three hours before high tide and the beach is disappearing
Rain continues to fall in sheets, pounding the windows. The wind continues to blow and gust. This is supposed to continue through the day tomorrow but the wind is supposed to subside into the 30's after midnight tonight. We're still chugging along, nice and cozy in our beach house, earlier we were watching "A Christmas Story". Lightning comes and goes and I see it flash in the windows often. I have most definitely seen worse, many times over. Let's hope it stays that way.
Heavy weather moving in from the south
No fishing, terrible conditions for photos, winds are too high to fly the drone or the kites, both today and tomorrow. I'm not sure what we'll do tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it will involve a ride on the beach to check out what kind of erosion the storm caused. By tomorrow morning the beach will have been through two high tide cycles and a lot of wind driven surf. I'll also be able to see what the ocean looks like, but I can hear the ocean from our house. Windows and doors closed, about 300 yards to the dune line from our house, and my hearing aids not used and put away....and I still hear the ocean. It's roaring.
Fierce skies, from the GoPro mounted in the truck
Maybe we'll get some decent photos tomorrow. Hard to tell because conditions are so unpredictable. I haven't heard of any dune breaches or places where highway 12 was cut or flooded. The wind has been whipping up huge piles of sea foam and blowing them onto the beach. That doesn't happen unless it's pretty rugged out there. We'll see where this goes.
I wish I had better stories and better photos to share tonight, but it happens that way sometimes. Maybe we'll get lucky tomorrow. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! Stay well and stay safe.
