Out on the dirty edge
2014

We're getting tired of this..........

I chiseled  a small hole in the ice on the truck so I could see out.
No great poker news to report today........the real story is the MESS this place is. We had floods in the Rhine, record temps in Vienna, and now ice storms in Mississippi. We received ice, rain, and flash flooding in places...then it all froze. It's one hell of a mess here.

The Gold Strike is dark, and all guest were turned out.
Today, the Goldstrike shut down all operations and turned guests out in the street, as did the Fitz, and Sam's Town.  Three large casino resorts just shut their doors and turned people out. Harrahs had lights going on and off in the hotels, one of the hotels had no power, we lost power for a while at the RV park.
Due to fluctuations in the power system, the fire alarms in the casino, apparently running on generator, kept going off. To lend an air of creepy to the whole thing, none of the parking lot lights were on and the parking lot was pitch black. The Horseshoe was running on generator, but had no heat in any hotel room above floor 6. Areas around the casinos were pitch black as well....with lots of power poles snapped off.

The Horseshoe had some power.     Apparently enough to run the sign.

View from the motor home.     The campground is covered in ice.    Many of the   unattended  campers  froze and the pipes burst.   One had ice running out the front door.
Restaurants were short staffed. We went to Harrahs and sat in the sports bar, which was the only restaurant open. We sat for 90 minutes and never received our food. I know they're short staffed, but there were people arriving after we did who had eaten and left. Our waiter brought the check 40 minutes before we walked out and we hadn't even gotten our food....and the check was wrong. They didn't have what I ordered (a burger and fries......nothing fancy) so they just substituted something else of their choosing. Eventually we just walked out.  We went to the Horseshoe, they comped us lunch, and we had a nice meal at the buffet with a great waiter who was very attentive. I understand problems....but HATE incompetence.
We don't know what to think about Tuesday....but we're hoping we'll get out of here and headed home. We're going to see what happens in the morning.......hoping that we can get together enough information about road conditions to make a decision as to what we're going to do.
We hope to go home tomorrow. We'll figure that out in the morning.

Inch thick ice in the  pool area.
Quote of the day: It's unrepeatable.......and was Bill's comments about how things were run in the restaurant.

Song of the day: I didn't pick one. There aren't any good ice storm songs.
