Twelve distanced
days of Christmas
2020

On the tenth day of Christmas

28 December, 2020

Another simple day, but we did catch a few fish.  We caught two blues that we turned back.  It was pretty comfortable with a light wind, calm seas, and temperatures in the 50's.

It is very unusual for me to not have things I have to do.  I don't have to be anywhere, I don't have work stacked up that must be done right away, I don't have things breaking down that I have to fix.  I get up, we go fishing, we come back to where we stay.  In the evening, I edit my photos, play internet poker with the crew from Wilmington, and write the blog.  While not exciting like one of our normal trips, it is easy.  With the year we've had, easy is good.

I have my kites with me and we'll fly kites before we go.  I don't use the kites much in Tennessee as it's not a kite kind of place.  I haven't flown the drone but maybe we'll do that too.  I've gotten kind of lazy here....in Europe we are on the move and doing things all the time.  But that's okay.

As I mentioned in a previous post, it's hard for me to write about visiting here as it seems so normal to me.  I have a few fishing pics and I'll explain a bit in the captions about what we do during the day.  We also have several "Christmas Past" photos of Chamonix, France.  It was an incredibly gorgeous place and we met our new friends Russell and Annie!

Be safe everyone.  Stay well.

The surf brings sand back in, reclaiming the shipwreck that was so visible on Christmas day.  Things come and go here.

We were able to get frozen tuna belly (on the left) and finger mullet.  Depending on the size of the mullet we can fish them whole or cut them in half.

Hanging out and watching the rods.  Insulated waterproof boots are a must this time of year.

Late in the day, the sun casts this gold light across the beach.  The dunes start to cause shadows across the beach.  We usually start getting ready to head in about this time.

Fishing rods are carried in racks on the front of the truck.  They drop into the holder and gravity holds them in place.  You don't have to break them down or stow them.  My rack holds six.

We did catch a few blues today.  Maybe tomorrow will bring us larger fish.

When I was a kid, the whole island looked like this.  There was the occasional gas station/general store, but that was it.  As a child I loved playing in the ocean but missed the exciting beach things that others did.  As an adult I've come to realize that less is more.
