On the eleventh day of Christmas
29 December, 2020
This is Reubin, often called "Rooooobin!" He is far from shy.
Wind. It's back. While yesterday was like a lake and everything was flat and calm, today the wind was back. While we were on the beach, the wind was blowing over 25 and peppering us with sand that was snaking across the beach. We went out on the beach, sheltered behind the truck and put one rod out. I would throw a rig with an eight ounce Hatteras storm sinker and it would not stay put.
Laurie was bundled up and read her book. As rough as it was, it's still a day at the beach!
The wind would howl and Laurie asked if I could hear it whistle in the lines. In the old days when I could hear better I could, but not anymore. We were the only ones out there, fishing or walking. Maybe two or three 4x4's went by the whole time we were there, but nobody was out in the elements like we were. After a couple of hours of me throwing out rigs and the ocean throwing them back at me, we decided to give up and ride the beach for a while.
The wind whistles through the line (or so I'm told) while an 8 ounce weight tries to find purchase on the bottom. With little success.
We passed only one or two on the beach for miles and miles, having it mostly to ourselves. We eventually headed back to the house as we were expecting company. Heather arrived with Reubin and they are staying in a separate suite on the second floor. Jeff and Mary are heading out tomorrow. As planned there remains a huge amount of space for everyone to spread out and avoid contact.
While not a great day it was a day at the beach.
Tomorrow's weather promises ten degrees warmer and winds of 5 instead of 25. This sounds much more workable and we're looking forward to it. We plan to go out on the beach, set the rods, and fly kites from my kite collection! Today was rough but tomorrow will be a better day.
Maybe we'll have something exciting to report tomorrow. Everyone stay safe and stay well.
